COVID-19 Operations

As of Monday May 18, 2020 Summit County Animal Shelter will be open to the public.  We are maintaining the county’s physical distancing protocol by limiting the number of people that can be in the facility.  Below is some information you need to know if you plan to visit the shelter:

  • Do not visit if you are sick or experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Wear a face covering.
  • Wash or sanitize your hands upon entrance to the shelter.
  • Follow the instructions on the social distancing signs posted around the shelter.
  • We can only allow families of 3 people at a time.
  • Please be patient if the shelter is busy when you arrive.  We apologize in advance for any wait time you experience.  
  • We are unable to host any groups at this time.
  • All donated food is located in the left after hours drop box located on the outside of the shelter near the upper dog pens. Donated food can be accessed at any time. 
  • The League for Animals and People of the Summit (LAPS) has COVID-19 vouchers to assist residents and workers in Summit County with veterinary bills.

We look forward to having our pet loving public be able visit in person on a more relaxed schedule.   Thank you for your interest and support! 

Summit County Animal Control and Shelter is a division of the Summit County Sheriff’s Office. We enforce the animal control regulations for unincorporated Summit County. The shelter is utilized by citizens and visitors of all Summit County.

Mission Statement

To enforce the regulations for domestic animals’ care and control, there by providing protection to the people and property of Summit County. To provide the domestic animals in our care with a secure, shelter environment. To offer adoptable animals an opportunity for placement into permanent, responsible, and safe homes where they are valued.

9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Animal Visitation

Monday – Saturday
10:00 am – 4:00 pm
